Unibond First Division South - Saturday 6th February, 2010 - Att 203

Team: Aaron Grundy; Ross Lloyd, Ryan Broadhead, Carl Ruffer, Jamie Tandy; Peter Heler, Paul Henry, Brad Maylett (Mike Moseley 73); Ronnie Morgan, Carl Lamb (Steve Brodie 73), Steve Foster.   Substitutes n/u Brian Pritchard & Jack Baker(g/k).

Albion kept well amongst the division’s front runners with this thumping victory, albeit in a bad tempered encounter, over their Humberside opponents.

Steve Foster, with his 21st goal of the campaign, sent them on their way, cleverly flicking the ball past custodian Craig Perry after Liverpool referee James Madine had played a good advantage that allowed the ball to be passed to Peter Heler who in turn found Ronnie Morgan with Foster profiting from his fellow striker's slight miscue.

Goole looked to have got on level terms just after the half-hour only for Gavin Allott’s thumping header to be ruled out by an eagle-eyed Assistant’s flag! This decision incensed the visitors and it was only because advantage was again allowed after Foster had been hacked down that the perpetrator escaped punishment due to a second incident, involving Mick Goddard and Ryan Broadhead finally brought play to a halt.

Mr Madine sensibly called both captains to him for a fairly lengthy lecture before re-commencing play. However in stoppage time Goddard’s continued feud resulted in a rash challenge, high on Broadhead, just inside the penalty area. Having to wait three minutes whilst ,his colleague received treatment to a facial injury, Carl Ruffer purposely strode away from the ball, turned quickly and ran to fire the ball past Parry.

The visitors’ cause wasn’t helped when Terry Barwick was straight red-carded following his assault on Brad Maylett seven minutes after the resumption, however to their credit they took the game to Witton in a fine ten minute spell.

On 63 minutes though Ronnie Morgan eased Albion’s nerves, latching on to Paul Henry's perfect, even though he was fouled in the process, through ball, the striker made it three goals in three matches by rounding Parry before slotting the ball home.

Four minutes later it was 4-0, Ryan Broadhead capping a personal good day's work to head home from Jamie Tandy’s flag-kick.

In between Carl Lamb was fouled by Lee Stratford but this time Ruffer saw his spot-kick saved by Parry. However from their third penalty of the afternoon, given by the Assistant for a hand-ball offence, substitute Mike Moseley converted two minutes into stoppage time. (A significant 155th career goal from the Albion Great taking him level with John "Chalky" White as 4th top post-war scorer).

There was still time left for Albion to score again with Carl Ruffer netting his second of the match, this time though from close range after the keeper failed to deal with another Tandy corner kick.

Final mention for debutant right-back Ross Lloyd who although not playing regularly this season slotted in confidently and looks on this performance to be an able solution for that problem position.
