Saturday July 24th: Pre-Season Friendly. Attendance 114 TEAM: Matt Cooper; Matthew Holt (Elliott Ledwards(78), Ben Harrison, Ian Kearney, Danny Warner (Aaron Carter 78); Peter Heler, Phil Parkinson (Josh Hancock(60), Adam Foy (Matt Wood(57), Dave MacPherson; Andrew Kinsey & Chris Smith(Josh McKay 64). Subs not used: Ryan Broadhead, Alex Burns & Andy Jackson The Conference North side were managed by former Albion favourite Carl Macauley aided by another ex Player Reggie Maguire and included Tom Field in their line-up. However with only a 15 man strong squad available and making all the changes just after the hour mark we then saw all the three outfield substituted players re-introduced in the closing stages. Albion by comparison looked very impressive and it was only when defensive changes were made 12 minutes from time that Motors were able to really produce sustained attacking moves. Albion took the lead in the 29th minute when Chris Smith latched on to Dave MacPherson's slide rule pass before slotting the ball under Scott Tynan. As a wag mentioned "Smith's finish was Crisp" Skipper Ian Kearney then rattled the crossbar from a free-kick on the edge of the area. The lead was extended in the 38th minute when an inswinging Adam Foy corner from the left was sliced into his own net at the nesr post by the unfortunate Chris Noone. At the other end Matt Cooper produced a great double save to thwart Carl Noon. 13 minutes after the break it was Tynan's turn to produce a couple of saves within a minute as twice he denied MacPherson. Matt Wood then went close shortly after being introduced sending his shot narrowly wide of the far right upright. Noon did finally get on the score-sheet when a minute from time he was afforded lots of room as both central defenders were pulled to their right covering and it need a terrific diving save from Cooper to deny Noon an equaliser by pushing the low shot out for a corner just before the final whistle. |
